In order to gain optimum benefit from the class, there are some preparatory things to take heed of. Some of the bullet points below relate to your physical practice and some of them relate to awareness of others in the class.

  • Yoga is best practised on an empty stomach which is why the best time to practice is first thing in the morning before breakfast, preferably after emptying your bowel. As your class may be in the evening, you will benefit more from the class if you do not eat or drink immediatley before the class. You may, if you need to boost your energy, eat something easily digestible a minimum of one hour prior e.g. banana, toast on its own, dry crackers, biscuits. Do not drink during the class - not even water!
  • Preferably allow 30 minutes after class before eating, to let your system settle.
  • Yoga spaces are perfume-free zones. Please avoid wearing commercial perfumes or perfumed products for the class as this can affect students who are sensitive to allergies or have breathing problems.
  • If you have a medical condition or injuries let me know. If you are menstruating, you must NOT practice inverted poses - the pelvis must be kept level or upright.
  • If you are exrtremely 'physically' tired, let me know so that you can do some recuperative postures initially.
  • If you are using my yoga mats, please do not use hair oil, or body oil or creams on parts of you that will be in contact with the mat as they make the mats dangerously slippery.
  • If you are taking medication from a psychiatrist, let me know as some yoga practices may help your condition and some may have an adverse effect.
  • If you are on your feet for most days, it will be helpful to you to rest your legs prior to starting the class e.g. lying on the floor with your legs up the wall, or else adopt a kneeling pose. You may want to avoid lots of standing postures so let me know if this is relevant to you.
