'The Heart of Yoga' by T.K.V.Desichakar £5 (plus P&P) He present us with the theory, practice and philosophy of yoga practice as leanrt form his teacher, Sri T. Krishnamacarya. He takes us through:Part One: 'Foundations of yoga practice' which includes line drawings of how to synchronize the breathing with the postures; 'Pranayama', 'Bandhas', then on to Part Two: 'The Understanding of Yoga' in which he writes about the philosphical background to our practice and how these universal concepts affect us on a daily basis and not just in our yoga practice. Part three consists of Patanjali's Sutras which he explains. Part Four describes the life of Krishnamacharya. 'Preparing for Birth with Yoga by Janet Balaskas' £5 (plus P&P) This book is a comprehensive guide to postures during pregnancy with clear photos and ion some examples, showing more detailed aspects of a pose. The author is the founder of the Active Birth Movement. 'The Upanishads - an anthology' by D.S.Sharma. Published in India in 1970. £2 (plus P & P). This is a collection of all the Upanishads with translations in English and the author's own notes. 'Shape Your Self' by Martina Navratilova (Hardback) £16 incl P & P. An inspiring book to help you become, or keep fit as you get older. She writes about attitude of mind, diet and gives exercise plans for simple aerobic exercise that you can do at home. She also includes her own story of being a sportswoman and keeping fit as she gets older. 'The Power of Intention' by Dr Wayne Dyer. £5 (plus P&P) A self-help book about how we think about aspects of our life and how we approach situations. His aim is to: "change the way you look at things and the things you look at will change." |
